Dallas - Cityville at Southwestern

Cityville at Southwestern Medical District is a mid-rise transit-oriented development located across Medical District Drive near the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Light Rail Station in Dallas. The first phase of the development opened with approximately 260 apartments and 43,000 sq. ft. of office space in 2007. The Cityville development was built on the site of a former battery factory that was cleaned up with funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield Program.

Cityville development was followed by the opening of the 60-unit Ronald McDonald House Dallas next door in 2009. The Ronald McDonald House provides housing for the families of children receiving care at the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. The Alexan Southwestern is under construction between Cityville and the Ronald McDonald House and is expected to open in 2010 with approximately 400 apartments.

According to DART, the DART Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Light Rail Station will open in December 2010. The station will be served by the Green Line. The Medical District has several major hospital expansions currently underway. The biggest expansion is the $1 billion new Parkland Hospital surrounding the DART station next to Cityville at Southwestern.cityville retail

The City of Dallas created the Southwestern Medical District Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District in 2005 with a $20 million budget for streetscape and utility work to encourage development around the DART station.
