Within metropolitan areas across the country, regional transportation projects are tracked through Transportation Improvement Programs. The Transportation Improvement Program or TIP is a staged, multi-year program of projects approved for funding by federal, state, and local sources within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. FWTAIP contains projects with committed funds in fiscal years 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Project listings are financially constrained to available resources.
Every two to three years, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), local governments, and transportation agencies, develops a new TIP. The 2011-2014 TIP was approved by the Regional Transportation Council on June 3, 2010 and federal and State approval was received in February 2011.
In the meantime, the region's 20-year transportation plan was updated and projects were removed due to funding shortfalls. Subsequently, the 2011-2014 TIP was amended to reflect changes from the transportation plan. The 2011 amendments received federal approval on July 11, 2011.
